So, fifty nine good years back on 2nd November, 1965, under the able entrepreneurship of the erudite engineer and scientist, Late Sri P.K. Dasgupta and his wife Smt. Bharati Dasgupta, Bidya Bharati ventured forth on its new journey only with nine students in a rented house at New Alipore, Kolkata. By dint of perseverance and determination, courage and integrity Bidya Bharati Girls’ High School has set up a new milestone in academic and co-curricular fields.

At present the three units of Bidya Bharati Girls’ High School-Mominpore & Behala (Primary sections) and New Alipore (Secondary and Higher Secondary sections) stand glorified imparting the light of Knowledge to more than 4500 students. Overview

Bidya Bharati Girls’ High School has been nurturing the cause for the education of young minds over five eventful decades. The school which was started on 2nd November, 1965 with only 9 students, was the brainchild of Mr. Prafulla Kumar Dasgupta and Mrs. Bharati Dasgupta. Nursed tenderly and carefully at its initial stages with the love and devotion of its founder members, the school has now further blossomed under the able guidance of Mr. Shyam Sundar Agarwal and his son Mr. Mukul Agarwal.

In 1965, the school started with just a handful of students in a rented building.Today the institution boasts of three school buildings; a secondary and higher secondary section in New Alipore and primary sections in Mominpore and Behala. In this long journey the indomitable spirit of the institution has enabled it to meet both challenges and victories with equal fortitude. Every year, the remarkable performance of the students in the Secondary and Higher Secondary sections has been commendable. By dint of sheer perseverance, most of the students of our school have reached the apex of success and are now quite well established both at home and abroad. From Principal's Desk

My dear Students,
My heartfelt love and best wishes to you all.
Please remember that life is a continuous struggle for perfection. The process of learning helps you to overcome the struggle and achieve the goal. But, for this you must develop a calm and steady mind. Try to follow the advice and instructions which you receive from your teachers with utmost sincerity. A teacher can only repeat, remind, inspire instruct and guide you, but it is only you who will have to march forward with such ideas. Therefore, have full faith in God, in your teachers, your parents and in yourselves. Always engage in good deeds, beneficial activities, speak the truth, do not inflict pain by word, deed, or even thought. That is the way, to seek truth, that is the highest gain, which you can achieve in this life. Please remember, that the secret of knowledge is concentration. Everyone is the architect of ones own future which depends on what we think, speak and do today. We may utilize the experiences of the past

and design our plans for the future, working them out, at present. Therefore Now' is the most important time.
Sister Nivedita in her Essays on Education says that none is really taught by another - Real Education is Self-Education - By our own Vision of Ideal and by our own struggle to reach its height do we rise. She re-iterates, all that matters is our struggle, by that do we rise. Our struggle, our aspiration - should be based on TRUE COURAGE - In true courage there is no impatience, no rashness. To know, how to wait, is to put time on your side.
Knowledge dawns in the mind only if one is patient and mind is alert. The powers of the mind are like rays of light dissipated, when they are concentrated, they illumine. Be sure, that good motives, sincerity, unselfishness, respect and love for all can conquer the world and can win against all odds. However there is no short cut path .... In Katho Upanishad, we find Lord Yama advises
Nachiketa Shreyascha preyascha manushyametat Tou Sampareetya vivinakti dheerah

There are two approaches in life, The preferable (shreyash) and pleasurable (preyash). If we are intelligent we can view this in a detached manner. Just as a swan separates milk from water, similarly a man of intelligence, having surveyed fully the circumstances and considering them mentally the importance and unimportance through power of discrimination selects the path of 'Sreyashj' (Shreyash)} Over my long association with the School I have always cherished the nearness of my students who are so loving, so talented, and so cheerful- the Blooming Flowers.... We have always endeavoured to instill a vision of Indian culture, strength, unity and sincerity in the minds of our students. Our students have spread their wings far and wide, nationally and internationally They have made us really proud.
